Panasonic DECT Cordless Phone KX-TGA672E with faint LCD


This Panasonic DECT cordless phone developed a fault where the LCD was very faint and adjusting the contrast made no difference. This fault was traced to the flexi-circuit from the LCD to the main printed circuit board of the phone. It was bonded in some way to provide the electrical connection and was not soldered. To fix it I cut up a rubber eraser to the correct size the width of the flexi-circuit and a thickness of (1.5mm). This eraser helped to push down on the flexi-circuit when the white LCD housing was clicked onto the PCB. This fixed the fault and the LCD is now as it should be and the contrast adjust also works. Very annoying fault and a result of cheap manufacture not lasting very long.

    Hi Jim,
    I have the same phone and problem and guessed that this or something similar was the fault, however I cannot work out how to open up the handset itself.
    I can see the 2 screws in the battery compartment but cannot see any others and don't want to break the handset trying to open it.
    Can you tell me how to get into it?

    Hi apologies for the delay in replying , I used my finger nail to slide in the seam between the two halves of the case and slide along the seam with my nails parallel to the case plastic. This allows the clips on one half to jump over the clip on the other half. It will almost ping apart as you finally get to the last clips round the periphery of the case. I also use a strip piece of fibreglass printed circuit board with one edge filed to a thin knife edge to open the edge up on the case. The PCB material won't damage the plastic so at least the phone will not look like a hippo has chewed the plastic when you are finished :). Hope this helps.
